Cuba: Summer Vacations in the Caribbean
Date: JUL 06, 2009
Other Reports

The Cuban archipelago, strategically located in the Caribbean region, is an excellent tourist option for both national and foreign vacationers during the summer season, thanks to the region's tropical climate.

Cuba's average temperature is 24.6 degrees Celsius (76.2 degrees Fahrenheit), so many tourists decide to spend their vacations in dozens of beaches throughout Cuba.

July and August are the hottest months in Cuba, so many sports, cultural and social events are organized during that period.

Most people want to be in direct contact with nature, and many foreign tourists enjoy the warm crystal-clear waters of Cuban beaches.

The tourist region of Holguín, one of the fastest-growing destinations in the country, offers vacationers the incredible attraction of Cayo Naranjo, where tourists are surprised by an aquarium in the middle of the sea.

Located in the Bay of Naranjo, the center is accessed on speedboats from the nearby coast. Once there, tourists can watch a wide range of marine species and can take a refreshing swim with some of them.

Trained dolphins perform for the audience, showing their abilities and sharing the sea with tourists willing to enjoy the adventure.

About 30 kilometers of coastline with five natural beaches, archeological settlements, caves and pristine keys are part of an offer that is complemented by a six-kilometer-long coral reef where tourists can scuba dive and snorkel.

In Santiago de Cuba, the Baconao Park is the perfect formula for tourists who want to enjoy the region's well-preserved nature. The park was named after an aboriginal boy from a local pre-Columbian tribe.

The park's options include the possibility of spending a day in a typical countryside environment characterized by "bohíos" (thatched-roof houses) and "taburetes" (typical wooden and leather chairs).

Baconao also has an aquarium, where visitors can learn about the marine fauna of the Caribbean region, and can watch the animals from an underwater tunnel.

Dolphins and seals entertain both children and grownups with their mischievous behavior and abilities. Visitors can also enter a tunnel that is 30 meters under the sea to watch the marine species in their own habitat.

Baconao's facilities also include the Museum of Land Transportation, where more than 2,000 miniature vehicles and life-size old vehicles are on display.
